Garlic Twist

January 7, 2008 by Arieanna

Thanks to everyone who contributed feedback to the Garlic Press Wars poll. The results on which style of press you like most are as follows:

  • Standard Garlic Press 32 – 65% of all votes
  • Twist Model 5 – 10% of all votes
  • Rotary Model 1 – 2% of all votes
  • Slicer / Grater 4 – 8% of all votes
  • Dicer 7 – 14% of all votes

There were also many comments left by those of you who dice your own garlic. I spent several weeks looking at various garlic presses. Although the standard did win out in the poll, none of the standard model garlic presses seemed to overcome the issue with crushing all of the garlic. I have always had issues squeezing hard enough to get it all out.

After visiting all my favorite kitchen stores I ended up with the Garlic Twist, which would most aptly fall under the ‘dicer’ category.

Why I like the garlic twist:

  • does not have blades, so cannot become dull or rust
  • uses all of the garlic
  • garlic is diced with simple twisting motion
  • clean by rinsing
  • can also mince shallots or small peppers

This looks like the classic ‘weed grinder’

We put garlic in everything we cook and have never found a garlic tool that we’re happy with including some fancy impressive looking Garlic Pro and German garlic press. My search came to an end with the discovery of the Garlic Twist at SFMOMA. What a great gadget!

My search for the ultimate garlic tool is finally over! The Garlic Twist beats any garlic press hands down in every way you compare them!

Yup! This one has my vote :-)

  1. [...] "Inspired", is really quite gorgeous. I can’t attest to how it works (I love my garlic twist!), but it is aimed to improve upon the standard press model. Without holes, using slits instead, [...]

[...] This particular nut cracker was designed by Ineke Hans in 2007. Simply insert the nuts into the container and twist the lid to crack – it works very much like my favorite garlic twister! [...]
