Lagostina Fiveply-Copper Cookware Set
This is the topper of all new kitchen items that resulted from our wedding. With some returns and gift cards at The Bay, and a lovely 60% off sale, we purchased the ultimate cookware set:

When we were looking at cookware, we narrowed our options to this set, or the All-Clad 10 Piece Copper-Core Set (pictured to the right). Both are very expensive sets. The Lagostina set retailed for about $1200 CAD, and the All-Clad for $1600. Both featured an internal copper core, with stainless steel and aluminum.
After much research on what was available in the Canadian market, we decided on these two for the following reasons:
- Copper and aluminum are thought to be the best heat conductors, the one heating fast, the other evenly. Together, they provide the optimal heating solution.
- Copper core pans are more durable than copper bottomed ones, as we have heard of some copper bottoms falling off when improperly heated.

- Order: stainless steel, aluminum, copper, aluminum, stainless steel
- Stainless steel is durable and easy to clean, and likely to last a lifetime.
- Solid lids ensure that heat stays in, instead of coming out with glass
- They can be transferred to the oven (Lagostina for sure, All-Clad not sure)
- Lifetime guarantee
So, the two sets were relatively equal in terms of quality. They looked good and were sure to last. The difference was in a) price and b) included pieces. While the Lagostina 10-piece set includes different pot sizes, from the Dutch Oven down to the sauce pan, the All-Clad also included a fry pan and saute pan. So, the latter was a bit more comprehensive (hence the price).
Our deciding factor was obviously price. We’ve seen the All Clad for as much as 50% off, but never the 60% we got on the Lagostina. In the end, I am not sad about the lack of pans, as the Dutch Oven and the next sized down pot actually serve well as fry pans as well.
Our verdict: we love it! They heat so fast we have to learn how to use our stove again. Cleaning was a breeze, and they are just so sexy! Highly recommended!
