Tea doesn’t need to be boring

by Arieanna on September 21st, 2005

Steep it! Really, steeped tea has nothing boring about it. Tea, really, is a far overlooked category. Despite the fact that I am so annoyed with hearing the Tim Hortons Steeped Tea commercials, I thought I would dive into this with a great design for steeping your tea:

teastick

The teastick, by Gamila, with the tagline of “as tasteful as your tea”, really does marry design with function.

The teastick is made of stainless steel (so no rusting) and does more than just steep your tea. With its 3 step system you can scoop, slide, then steep your tea - all with only a single tool. How’s that for multitasking?

slideit

Other great features: really tiny holes - so no leaves slip through in your fine teas. No breakable parts. Fits easily onto most cups. Optimum fill-line. Really. Simple. Tea! $20

4 opinions for Tea doesn’t need to be boring

I’m part of tea communities and everyone who tried this little thing, said that it really wasn’t as great as it looked. So as far as the function side of this product, it’s not a great success.

I have to admit I’m feeling slightly offended by the ‘tea is boring’ implication of this post. Do I need that kind of gadget to help my tea be more fun, really ? Maybe tea is an overlooked category, because the quite old, but simple way of making tea actually works very well.

We’re really big tea drinkers - but most people out there, sadly, never look beyond the tea bag.

And I guess I understand what they wouldn’t - it does take time, dedication, and equipement.

They come up with those kind of tools to help people look beyond the teabag - but the thing is, it wouldn’t be necessary if they focused instead on developing great quality teabags. They might not be available everywhere, but I can vouch for the fact that you can actually find teabags made with full-leaf, truly amazing teas. And then it’s like having the best of both worlds, and it’s not necessary to sacrifice convenience (ever tried loose tea at work?) for quality.

True, very true. I was at a conference once and I had this beautiful bag of tea - it was not with paper, but cloth, and you could tell it was a true loose leaf tea. It was so fragrant. And, yes, I was the tea (and coffee) lover at work - I had a series of teas and a teaball on my desk at all times :)
